At 50, Helen Thayer walked across the North Pole with her dog.

At 76, Ezra Meeker drove a covered wagon, with oxen, along the Oregon Trail and back.

At 55, Thor Heyerdahl sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in the RA Expedition.

At 67, Grandma Moses sold her first of 3600 paintings.

At 52, Francis Chichester sailed around the world alone in a 53 foot sailboat.

At 95, Nola Ochs became the world's oldest college graduate. 

At 53, Walter Hunter patented the safety pin.

At 54, Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes learned to ride a new fangled contraption called a bicyle.

At 59, Clara Barton founded the American Red Cross.

At 62, J.R.R. Tolkien published the first volume of his fantasy series, The Lord of the Rings.

At 76, Nepalese climber Min Bahadur Sherchan became the oldest person to reach the Mt. Everest Summit.
